General Miodrag Jevtic, MD, the first rector of the University of Defense, in an interview to Odbrana magazine emphasizes that the challenge of accepting a new position, with the ambition to turn this newly established university into a regional military university education center, and a respectable institution that will attract young people to sign up for the Serbian Armed Forces and to be a strong support in the years to come.

Col. Professor, Marijan Novakovic, MD, the newly appointed Chief of the Military Medical Academy, speaks about his plans to further build these institutions, both in the Serbian health care system and its recognition in the regional and broader scale.

By awarding new commemorative medals and military decorations, the Serbian Army has restored the tradition of awarding military awards on the occasion of important historical events and dates, a tradition established in the second half of the 19th century, when the first medal for civil commitment was awarded.

The first contracts for voluntary military service were signed. Soldiers on voluntary military service will have a salary of up to 15000 RSD, will be able to regulate the payment of labour allowances, as well as a chance to later get a job in the defense system, or the agencies for physical and technical security.

In March, the first volunteers in the centers for training have been admitted. Since December 2010 to 10 February 2011 more than 1,100 candidates, including 123 women, and as many as 33 persons who served in civilian sector applied for the voluntary military service reported. AS for the course for reserve officers that lasts six months 63 people, including five women and two young men who have served in civil sector have registered.

The Serbian Armed Forces got 52 new non-commissioned officers, including six women at the end of last year. New members of the NCO corps are specific in that they have had a few years of service and have proved their capabilities of professional soldiers thus deserving the chance to attend a course at the Centre for Training NCOs in Pancevo and get the rank of a sergeant.

At Brodarevo on the Lim River, the pontoon bridge has for two months now been the only link with the world. - Every time you cross the bridge, which I do several times a day, I am immensely grateful to the Serbian Armed Forces for installing this bridge enabling a safe transit across this treacherous river as Jovan Gojakovic from the nearby village of Grobnice. - This is the immeasurable help of the Army of Serbia to Brodarevo and all this area - said Dragoljub Zindovic, the President of the Municipality of Prijepolje.

Mass, violent demonstrations in Egypt, the self-immolation in Algeria and Tunisia, the change of government in Jordan, riots in Bahrain, Yemen, Iran and Libya for the past few weeks have come into the limelight. The spark that shot through the lands of Pharaoh
apparently sparked the fire of discontent among the countries in the Middle East and
the northern part of the African continent. While each of these countries is in a specific situation, the demands of dissatisfied masses can be reduced to a few main ones- radical
political and economic reforms, the respect of human rights and political freedoms, and the lessening of social differences.

The aim of the new Strategic Concept of NATO, which replaced the1999 concept, is to provide a basis for shared goals, priorities and resources of the Alliance, given the
current and future international political context and challenges, risks and threats
security over the next ten year period.

Dragan Bjelogrlic, actor, producer and director, on the occasion of his film "Montevideo" says that in this period of his life he is trying to correct some mistakes. – “If at some point in my life, I rushed headlong for something that the 30 year olds rush for and I forgot to be your friend, or boy Stanoje says forgot to have a dream, to love life - now I am trying to make up for it all. This is woven into the beginning and end of the movie "Montevideo": Life is when you have a dream, and if the dream becomes a reality, not even the death itself is the end of life.
