135 years of the Military Geographical Institute exhibition

The exhibition "135 years of the Military Geographical Institute " was opened today at the Military Museum and is one of a series of events marking the anniversary of the establishment.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by State Secretary Zoran Jeftic, PhD, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dragan Radulovic, representatives of cultural institutions, and military institutions.

- All the maps speak more than any report about the contribution of the Military Geographical Institute to the defense of the fatherland. And in this century, as well as in two previous ones, maps, and general information about the area, are as effective as weapons, and in some cases even more than that – as Head of the Military Geographical Institute Col. Mirko Borisov, PhD said in the opening of the exhibition,.

Some 110 items are exhibited mostly including maps created by the MGI in the period from the inception of the Serbian Army until its current name the Serbian Armed Forces. The first map done in the scale 1:75.000, using topographical measurements from the 1881 to 1892 is one of the most important exhibits.

The exhibition was arranged and set up by a senior curator Ljubica Dabic and engineer Borko Blanusa, while it was opened by the head of the Military Museum Colonel Miroslav Knezevic.
