Representative exhibitions marking the National Day of the Republic of Serbia



The representative exhibitions of the symbols of statehood, which will be opened in Novi Sad, Nis, Valjevo and Kragujevac, will mark this year's national holiday of Candlemas – the National Day of Serbia.

The public will be able for the first time to see the originals of certain Serbian constitutions, decorations and medals of the Principality and the Kingdom of Serbia, flags and banners from the time of World War II, and the Serbian royal insignia.

The aim of the exhibitions, which are organized based on the decision by the Government of Serbia, is to present the citizens in a comprehensive manner the centuries of nation-building, constitutional, cultural and artistic tradition of Serbia – it was said at the press conference which was held in the Serbian Archives.

The exhibition entitled Constitutions of the Principality and the Kingdom of Serbia will be staged in the Gallery of the National Museum in Kragujevac on from 14 to 22 February. Visitors will be able to see six constitutions from that period, which are stored in the Serbian Archives – the Sretenje (Candlemas) Constitution of 1835, the Turkish constitution, which was released in 1838, the Governors' Constitution of 1869, and the Constitutions of the Kingdom of Serbia of 1888, 1901 and 1903.

In the gallery of Serbian Cultural Society in Novi Sad, there will be the exhibition entitled Decorations of the Principality and the Kingdom of Serbia, which will last from 14 to 22 February. On that occasion the decorations from the collections of the Military Museum in Belgrade originating from the period of mid-19th century until the First World War will be presented.

Serbian Royal Insignia of the Serbian History Museum is an exhibition that will be available for the citizens at the National Museum in Valjevo, and which will last from 15 to 22 February. Royal insignia – the crown, the robe, scepter, orb and buckle for the jacket, are just some of the items of great importance for the state and the national history of Serbia, which are made for King Peter the First.

In the gallery of the National Museum in Niš, from 15 to 22 February, an exhibition of the Military Museum in Belgrade entitled Serbian Flags from the period of the First World War will be held. On that occasion, there will be exposed 51 copies of regimental flags, one of them being original, under which the Serbian Army won freedom in the Balkan War and the First World War. At the exhibition, five original flags of volunteer units from the USA and Canada, many medals by which the units were awarded for the war credits, as well as three certificates of award of regiment flags, will be presented.
