Military Geography Institute Marks the Anniversary

One hundred and thirty fifth anniversary of the existence and work of the Military Geography Institute has been marked today with a Ceremonial Assembly. It was attended by chiefs, commanders and representatives of the organizational units of SAF General Staff, units and institutions of the Ministry of Defence, representatives of state institutions, university, scientific institutions, companies and agencies with which the Military Geography Institute cooperates.

Colonel Mirko Borisov, Chief of the MGI, said that the Institute made a great contribution to the development of numerous geodisciplines in Serbia and the region, and that participating in the works and projects of the International Geodetic and Cartographic Union, and with innovations of measuring instruments and accessories, it permanently entered into the history of the world geodesy.

- Despite the adverse impact of the global economic crisis, we have entered this year with high hopes and optimism, because we are now, after a long time, in the process of purchasing a new aircraft and digital camera for photogrammetric recording. Their use is planned for the autumn, within the campaign of the aerial survey of the state territory – said Colonel Borisov.

The MGI Day was an opportunity to present certificates of appreciation to institutions and individuals for a long-term successful cooperation. This year, the MGI certificates of appreciation were presented to the company GISDATA, Astronomical Observatory, High construction and surveying school, Geomagnetic Institute, and the associate professors Dragoljub Sekulovi?, PhD and Branko Bozic, PhD.

The programme of marking the anniversary will be continued with the exhibition of the most important results of the MGI in the past period organized by the Military Museum in Kalemegdan. The exhibition will be opened on 8th February.
