MMA in the previous year

The annual analysis of the functional capability of this institution in the last year was held today at the Military Medical Academy.

The meeting was attended by State Secretary Zoran Vesic, Brigadier General Veljko Todorovic, PhD, the Head of the Military Health Care Department, representatives of the departments in the Ministry of Defense and the SAF General Staff , military medical institutions in Nis, Novi Sad and in Belgrade.

The analysis was opened by the Head of Military Medical Academy Major General Miodrag Jevtic, stating that 2010 could be said to be the most successful in the past decade for the MMA. He recalled the events that marked the past year and stressed that there was an increasing dominance of medical services, ranging from 10 to 20 percent depending on the area of medical services in comparison to 2009.

- In the previous period we managed to make the functioning of the military medical system more harmonious, in the sense that the MMA could more easily and more flexibly respond to the needs of other health care institutions, with other military medical institutions taking over their share of responsibility, thanks to equipping and investments made in the staff, thus alleviating the workload of the MMA- as was said by the State Secretary Zoran Vesic.

He pointed out that the MMA and the military health care had taken their rightful place in general in society. MMA is a part of the Ministry of Defense, and our military health care system has been recognized by countries that have obliterated their military health care systems, and now want to restore them.

Vesic underlined the importance of the MMA Medical College, which in future will be turned into a Medical Faculty, then cooperation with civil society and partnership that was established with the Clinical Center of Serbia and the School of Medicine in Belgrade.

Activities that also marked the work of the MMA were the participation of institutions in peacekeeping missions in Chad and the Congo, the completion of education of two classes of medical service officers and two classes of veterinary services, and there is an ongoing transformation of the School for Reserve Officers into a regional center. The MMA College and its students achieved excellent results. This will, as General Jevtic said, enable a long-term existence of the military health care system.

MMA has managed to get certified ISO standards, a very important activity is cooperation with many countries in the region and Europe. That institution was visited in last year alone by 17 delegations of the highest rank, had a a very successful cooperation with the Orthodox Church. In future work, special attention will be devoted to training personnel and technological renewal of the MMA.

In the previous year the MMA won many awards, where Major General Jevtic pointed out the Sundial award as the most precious- this being the award for the best medical institution in Serbia.
