Serbian peacekeeprs return from the mission in Chad



Fourteen members of the medical team of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army returned late last night from the peacekeeping mission in Chad. Seven doctors, six nurses and one staff officer engaged in the UN mission MINURCAT. This is the third medical team that is engaged in the African country, and first performed this task independently, since the previous two participated in the Norwegian contingent of the UN.

At the airport Nikola Tesla Serbian peacekeepers were welcomed by Brigadier General Veljko Todorovic, the Chief of the Military Health Care and Colonel Jelesije Radivojevic, head of the Center for Peacekeeping Operations.

Brigadier General Veljko Todorovic said that our doctors and technicians demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism in carrying out tasks in difficult conditions which prevail in Chad. According to him, our medical team was assigned the task to look after the health of thousands of international force troops in Chad and Central African Republic. General Todorovic said that the entire military health care was performed adhering to o the principles of good medical practice that are consistent with NATO standards, so it was not difficult for them to successfully adapt. He pointed out that by participating in such a complex mission, we stood side by side with the best armies of the world and show that we are interoperable.

Colonel Nebojsa Djenic,MD, head of the medical team said that the members of our military returned to the country safely and with a fulfilled assignment. He emphasized that the impressions of people with whom our doctors worked in the field are very positive as evidenced by the praise of the Special Envoy of UN Secretary General, who personally manages the mission. The job is, as stated by Djenic, was difficult and professionally challenging, but the members of the Serbian medical had proved the reputation of our military medicine.
