Admission of the last generation of conscripts

Admission of the December class of conscripts ended on Friday, 3 December 2010, and this is the last generation that will serve military service under the old statutory provisions. More than a thousand young men, according to instruction plans, will spend the next six months in training centers and units of the Serbian Army.

Lieutenant Colonel Radomir Aleksandric, commander of 3rd Training Center in Jakovo, says the response to military service in the last generation, which is a legal obligation, has been very high.

In the opinion of the commander of 3rd center, and after the abolition of legal obligations, we will see significant number of those who will want to serve military service voluntarily. The reasons are, as he points out numerous - from the personal feeling of patriotism, to the practical advantages that would make military history in employment in the civil service.

Conscript Filip Mitrovic from Belgrade says that he took the opportunity to serve the military as his ancestors did. In his view, the military is an essential part of growing up and he would consider himself as an incomplete man if he had missed that experience. His intention, he adds, is to try to fight for the status of a professional soldier.

Zoran Velickovic wants to be a police officer and is confident military service under arms would be a good recommendation. He believes that after the army he will emerge as a more mature and, as he says, more complete person. Jovan Hercegovcevic from Dublja shares his view. He believes that even after the abolition of conscription many people from his town will be interested in serving the military service.
