Seminar on security integrations of Serbia



In Kovacica a two-day seminar on "The Republic of Serbia in the Partnership for Peace and the possibility of engaging in the common European defense and security policy" began today, organized by the OSCE Mission.

The seminar is intended for members of the Defence and Security and the Committee for European Integration of the Parliament of Serbia and t, in addition to deputies, the MP s and staff deal with this issue are participating in the seminar , including the members of the police, and the representatives of the ministries of defense of Austria, Sweden and Switzerland.

The introductory lecture was given by State Secretary for Defence Dr Tanja Miscevic, who has made her first official appearance after being appointed to that position in the MoD.

After the Mr. Vladimir Bilandzic Special Advisor to the Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia had welcomed the participants, Secretary of State Miscevic presented the status of defense reform and the participation of our country in the Partnership for Peace. She stressed that Serbia, at this point does not use all the mechanisms and benefits of participation in the PfP, but does its best to raise its evolvement on a higher level. Miscevic pointed out the most important steps taken by the current management of the MoD in the process of reform of the framework and indicated the framework for further action and improvement of the system.

Following the seminar, Dr. Stanislav Stojanovic of the Strategic Planning and Colonel Jelesije Radivojevic, Head of the Center for Peacekeeping Operations, introduced the previous participation of the MoD and the Serbian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations, as well as the mechanisms for the preparation of units and members of our country after the Government and Parliament reach a decision on supporting peace missions
.
International representatives and MPs had a series of questions related to specific issues of defense cooperation, and NATO and EU security institutions. One of the topics of discussion were the benefits our country can have from significant involvement in international missions, but also the financial aspects and greater government support for such endeavors.

AS the seminar on the topic "Impact of Euro-integrations on security and defense policy of the Republic of Serbia" proceeds, Colonel Katarina Strbac from the Institute of Strategic Research will give an expose.

The conclusion of all the representatives of Parliament and the participants of the seminar organized by OSCE is that it is very important for better understanding of the current integration process of the defense and security.
