Sutanovac and Degert on the continaution of EU integrations
Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac met today with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Ambassador Vincent Degert and discussed the process of continuing European integration of Serbia, after the publication of the Annual Report of the European Commission on Serbia's progress in the process of European integration.
It was concluded that this year's report of the European Commission has pointed out the progress in reforms, but that it should also be used as a set of important recommendations as to what special attention should be paid to the further harmonization of standards in Serbia with EU rules any more efficient. It particularly emphasizes the constant progress in defense reform in line with European standards, especially the completion of the legislative framework for civil and democratic control of the security sector.
Ambassador Degert stressed the importance of including the SAF in EU missions after signing the Framework Agreement on the civilian and military, which is expected by the end of 2010.
Furthermore, Minister Sutanovac and Degert Ambassador discussed the conversion of the military airport in Uzice for civil use, as well as other projects that could be financed by the European Union's IPA.
Both Minister Sutanovac and Ambassador Degert agreed that tomorrow's visit of the member of the European Commission responsible for enlargement who will present the questionnaire for EU accession is an important step in the process of European integration of Serbia. They states that they expected the further progress of Serbia in achieving candidate status for EU membership to be consistent and fast, with full understanding of key political, legal and economic conditions not only as a condition for EU membership, but as the need for forming a stable, democratic society.
