General Miletic visits Austria



The Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff LTG Miloje Miletic is paying an official visit to Austria. This morning Gen. Miletic laid a commemorative wreath at the Tomb to an Unknown Soldier, which was followed by official talks of General Miletic with the Chief of the Austrian General Staff General Edmund Entacher.

The two generals first discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two armies, especially focusing on training and further specialization. Both sides agreed that the enlargement of cooperation especially in the domain of the NBC (nuclear-biological-chemical weapons) protection would be most beneficial to both sides, while agreeing that cooperation should also focus on logistics.

General Miletic confirmed the Serbian’ army’s readiness to send MoD/SAF members to various specialist courses in military university institutions in Austria, especially in courses where army members are trained for multinational peacekeeping operations, logistics and NBC protection, while also offering to the members of the Austrian forces to come and attend or be guest lecturers at the specialist courses in the Peacekeeping Operations Center in SAF GS and in Krusevac NBC protection center.

Both sides exchanged their stances regarding the achieved level of transformation of the armed forces of both countries, where the Austrian army officials accentuated the impressive number of Austrian troops, some 1200 members, participating in peace missions, mainly in the Balkans.

Cooperation with the Austrian armed forces is also present in joint exercises, as SAF members will have the opportunity to participate in EURAD 1 international exercises, and the air show Air Power 11 to be held in Austria next year.

Furthermore, the SAF CHOD attended at the launch of the book titled “50 years of foreign missions” on which occasion he had talks with the Austrian defense minister Norbert Darabos.

On the second day of the visit, General Miletic will visit the NBC protection school where he will discuss the possibilities for expanding cooperation in this domain.
