Minister visits Kraljevo



The Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac and Deputy CHOD of SAF LTG Mladen Cirkovic as well as the army commander LTG Ljubisa Dikovic visited the “Jovan Kurusla” barracks today following the earthquake which shook Kraljevo early this morning.

The SAF and MoD representatives got an insight into the damage caused to the infrastructure in the barracks where one part of the Army Second Brigade is stationed.
On that occasion, the Minister stated that the earthquake had caused significant damage to the military facilities, fortunately, there were no injured members of the SAF, and that the military was ready to offer any help the civilians might need.

“Unfortunately, the earthquake was so strong that it could be felt as far as Belgrade, causing extensive damage and even claiming two lives, leaving dozens of injured. The military facilities have alkos suffered damage, luckily there are no casualties or injured”, as Sutanovac said during his tour of the Jovan Kursula barracks, in the Kraljevo part of Jarcujak.”

“Our priority now is to restore damaged facilities and restore their previous functions and capacities, as minister remarked , adding that these facilities had been revitalized renovated recently, and that now a new sum of money should be allocated for their repaid”.

“Members of the military are currently engaged on a site clean-up in the barracks, while also being ready to provide any necessary help to the civilians”.

Water cisterns and manpower stand ready to be used to help the civilians, and the army will be the first to provide assistance.
In his message to the parents of the conscripts, the minister said that no conscript is in danger, that they were safe, performing their duties in line with the plans”.
"The army itself has no problems, but the material resources may pose a problem”, as the minister said.
Brig. Gen. Dusan Spasojevic, commander in chief of the second brigade stated that the Kraljevo based units were being relocated in two barracks, in Ribnica and Jurcujk respectively.
The Ribnica barracs has seen no greater damage, and it will be repaired using internal capacities, while in Jurcujk there are still ongoing estimates of the possible safety risks, that is, whether the facilities are suitable to accommodate manpower.
He also stated that the members of the army were ready to provide support and assistance to the city contingency HQ in carrying out all tasks in the wake of the earthquake.
The damage in Jurcujk is on the walls, on certain parts chimneys caved in, and tiles fell of the roof, while a part of the roof fell through, while the interior has cracks, and the furniture is damaged.
