Tour of newly renovated facility at First Infantry Regiment Barracks in Vranje
Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited the First Infantry Regiment of Prince Miloš the Great Barracks in Vranje, where the reconstruction and adaptation of a soldier housing facility has been completed.

The newly renovated 2,600 square metre building was originally constructed in 1893 and refurbished in 1984. After the NATO aggression against our country, which had inflicted substantial damage upon the building, extensive restoration work was undertaken.
The latest upgrades to the building have created a better environment for conscripts to live, work, and train in. The facilities include dormitories, classrooms, offices, support rooms, as well as washrooms and other amenities tailored to the needs of conscripts.

During the visit, Minister Gašić highlighted that investing in military infrastructure means investing in personnel and their working environment.
- Our goal is to provide conscripts with a well-organised, functional, and modernly furnished space for living, working, and training. By restoring this facility in Vranje, we are preserving our military’s invaluable heritage, while giving it a new, modern look. Investments like these demonstrate our care for those who have chosen the military profession, and for the young people who are just starting their journey in the Serbian Armed Forces. We will continue improving conditions in our barracks, because the true strength of a military does not only lie in weapons and equipment, but in well-trained, motivated, and satisfied personnel – the Minister of Defence said.

The renovation included roof replacement, facade restoration, complete replacement of internal and external joinery, and floor refurbishment. Internal and external water supply and drainage systems were reconstructed, the radiators, the heating substation, and electrical installations were replaced, and new lighting and lightning protection were installed. Additionally, telecommunications, signalling, and fire detection systems were upgraded. The project also included the paving of the courtyards in front and behind the building.
Minister Gašić was accompanied on the tour by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mile Jelić, the Chief of Staff at the Army Command, Brigadier General Grujica Vuković and the Commander of the Fourth Army Brigade, Colonel Srđan Glavonjić.
