Rotation of Serbian Armed Forces unit in UNIFIL
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who had been on peacekeeping mission in UNIFIL since April this year, have returned to the Republic of Serbia following the successful completion of their peacekeeping duties.
Over the past six months, they served as part of a force protection platoon in Sector West, tasked with securing the base that houses the Italian contingent of the United Nations peacekeeping forces.Under complex security conditions, they carried out their tasks professionally and responsibly, representing their military and their country with honour and dignity. They have been replaced in these roles, under the same mandate, by colleagues who deployed to the AO earlier this month.
The rotation of the Serbian force protection platoon was formally completed this week at the United Nations base in Lebanon, in the presence of the sector commander for the AO. During a ceremony held for the occasion, members of the Serbian Armed Forces were awarded United Nations medals for their successful participation in the mission and their contribution to building and maintaining peace. The Serbian Armed Forces have been participating in the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Lebanon since 2010. In addition to a force protection platoon, the Serbian contingent includes an infantry company, staff officers within the mission HQ, and a group of specialists tasked with supporting the Serbian contingent.
Through their participation in peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to building and preserving global peace, while simultaneously demonstrating their professionalism and capacity to deploy forces and resources within an international framework. Beyond enhancing operational proficiency and improving interoperability, such missions also foster international cooperation and strengthen the country’s reputation.
