Chief of General Staff meets with new KFOR Commander
The Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, met today in Belgrade with Major General Robert Vergori, who took command of the KFOR mission two days ago.
The meeting focused on the current security situation in Kosovo and Metohija, the problems and challenges faced by the Serbian community, and activities of the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR aimed at preserving peace and security. The discussion highlighted the importance of open and direct communication between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR at all levels in monitoring the situation on the ground and preventing crisis escalation.
The Chief of the General Staff pointed out that the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija was sensitive, that Serbs in the province did not feel safe, and that their fundamental rights and freedoms were under threat. Emphasising that the Serbian Armed Forces consider KFOR as the only legitimate armed formation in Kosovo and Metohija, he asked the Italian general to ensure that the international security forces carry out their mandate consistently and impartially, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and other signed agreements, and that they guarantee a safe environment and freedom of movement, primarily for the Serbs living in our southern province.
He congratulated General Vergori on his appointment and expressed expectation that, during his tenure, cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR would be professional and aimed at preserving peace and stability in the region.
