Official visit to Republic of Cyprus

A delegation representing the Ministry of Defence and Yugoimport-SDPR, led by the Acting Assistant Minister for Material Resources, Nenad Miloradović, Ph.D., is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus.
The purpose of the visit is to jointly assess military-economic and military-technical cooperation to date and lay the groundwork for closer cooperation in the future.

During the visit, a meeting was held with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, Vasilis Palmas. The talks focused on bilateral defence cooperation, with a special emphasis on the military industry and defence technologies.
Additional meetings were held with Panayiotis Hadjipavlis, Director of General Procurements and Defence Capabilities Development at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, focusing on cooperation and the execution of existing contracts between Yugoimport-SDPR, the Defence Industry of Serbia, and the Cypriot Ministry of Defence. With the Serbian defence industry already established as the Cypriot Armed Forces’ strategic partner in developing key combat capabilities, the two sides discussed plans to significantly broaden this cooperation through a new generation of weapons systems currently being developed for the Serbian Armed Forces.

As part of the visit, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Cypriot Ministry of Defence, Stelios Kountouris, and Assistant Minister Nenad Miloradović signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two ministries. The memorandum lays the foundation for expanding cooperation in the joint procurement of weapons, military equipment, and services, as well as industrial cooperation and research and development projects.
As a European Union member, Cyprus has access to European defence initiatives and funding and is developing an ecosystem of institutes and companies focused on high-tech areas, in line with the EU’s defence development plans. Some of these areas align perfectly with the strategy for the development of Serbian Armed Forces’ defence capabilities, particularly in unmanned and autonomous systems for aerial, ground, and naval operations. It is precisely in these areas that the two sides expect to strengthen cooperation through joint development and co-production. The Serbian delegation visited multiple institutes and companies within the Cypriot defence industry operating in these fields to get a firsthand look at their manufacturing capabilities and explore future avenues of cooperation.

This visit is the latest in a series of routine consultations between the leaderships of the two ministries and it reaffirms the importance that both sides place on their military-technical cooperation.
