International Course on Protection of Civilians in Peacekeeping Operations

An international course on the protection of civilians in peacekeeping operations was held last week at Base South near Bujanovac for members of the Serbian Armed Forces and personnel from 14 other countries.
This specialised course was organised by the Serbian Armed Forces Peacekeeping Operations Centre, certified by the United Nations Integrated Training Service to deliver this training.

During the five-day training course, the trainees gained a basic understanding of the implementation of the Protection of Civilians mandate in United Nations peacekeeping operations, current standards and procedures for a more effective protection of civilians, and correct response to situations where civilian lives are under immediate threat.
The training was delivered by a team of instructors from the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, alongside guest lecturers from partner training centres in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Germany, and Switzerland.

The great interest shown by foreign personnel in attending this course serves as a testament to the quality of training and preparation for peacekeeping operations offered by the Serbian Armed Forces. It reinforces the status of our centre as an internationally recognized institution dedicated to training individuals and units for peacekeeping missions, while also reaffirming the Serbian Armed Forces’ commitment to taking all necessary measures to protect civilians in these operations.
