Minister Gašić visits Military Medical Academy: Continued investment in cutting-edge equipment and patient treatment conditions
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited the Military Medical Academy (MMA) today, where he met with the institution’s management to discuss outfitting the MMA with state-of-the-art medical equipment, capital investment projects, and improving patient treatment conditions.
The Minister of Defence inspected the space designated for radiotherapy at the MMA’s Institute of Radiology, which houses a CyberKnife, the first of its kind in Serbia and the only one in this part of Europe, as well as a linear accelerator with an accompanying CT simulator. He emphasised that new equipment and first-rate working conditions were essential prerequisites for delivering premium healthcare.- The Military Medical Academy strives to keep up with the standards of care maintained by the most modern medical institutions, which means that working conditions for medical staff, as well as treatment conditions for patients, must be of the highest quality. By procuring new equipment, such as the CyberKnife, and by enhancing existing capabilities, we are creating the necessary conditions to deliver care to patients to the highest standard possible – Minister Gašić said. He added that the goal was to ensure that service personnel, their families, and all other citizens seeking treatment at the MMA receive modern diagnostics and cutting-edge treatment methods.
The CyberKnife and the linear accelerator have significantly enhanced the MMA’s radiotherapy capabilities, enabling more precise and efficient treatment of various malignant and benign conditions. The CyberKnife uses advanced robotic technology to deliver radiation with high precision, which is particularly useful in the treatment of tumours in hard-to-reach and vital areas. The linear accelerator enables the delivery of concentrated radiation doses with high precision, over a shorter period of time.
During the visit, Minister Gašić was briefed about the completed infrastructure works at the Military Medical Academy and inspected the refurbished MMA dining halls. Waterproofing on the flat roof above the dining hall and access corridors was completely replaced, as were floor, wall, and ceiling coverings. In addition, installations, air conditioning, joinery, cooling machines and their accompanying cooling towers were completely replaced as well.
According to Minister Gašić, these investments are part of an ongoing project to restore the MMA and a key prerequisite for its further development.- In addition to procuring modern medical equipment, we also intend to upgrade its infrastructure, so that the MMA can meet the highest standards of medical care - Minister Gašić noted.
Commenting on the efforts to strengthen military healthcare personnel, the Minister of Defence noted that a significant number of doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and hospital support staff had been recruited into military medical institutions in the past period. He stressed that great importance was being attached to staff education and professional development, including scholarships for students and support for individuals pursuing medical specialty training. The Minister was accompanied on his tour of the MMA by the Head of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel Professor Nenad Perišić, MD-PhD and associates.
