Training on cutting-edge medium-range surveillance radars
The introduction of cutting-edge GM-200 and GM-400 radars into service and the overall modernisation of aerial surveillance and early warning systems has significantly improved the Serbian Armed Forces’ airspace control and protection capabilities.
These medium- and long-range radars have been fielded to the 126th ASEWG Brigade, significantly enhancing its target detection and tracking capabilities, as well as its ability to provide timely aerial situation reports. To enhance the personnel’s proficiency in using the radars effectively, maximising their capabilities, training and drills are conducted daily. In this way, their readiness for deployment within the forces continuously engaged in controlling and protecting the airspace of the Republic of Serbia is maintained at a high level.
Major Zoran Ilić, commander of an ASEWG company, points out that during collective training on GM-200 radars, crews rehearse rigorously the standard procedures for the operation, servicing, maintenance, and protection of the radar systems.
— In addition to moving the radar from stowed to operating position and vice versa, this training phase focuses on drilling crews in detecting low-altitude targets with specific flight paths and low radar cross-sections, as well as in processing and distributing radar surveillance data - notes Major Ilić.The GM-200 surveillance radar is a 3D, multi-role, mobile medium-range radar designed to detect various targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as missile and artillery projectiles. Its introduction into service, alongside the long-range GM-400 radars and the new SOVA 24 system for air situation processing, display, and automatic control, has ensured that the highest standards for airspace control operations are met.
