Soldier housing facility refurbished at Šabac barracks

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited today the housing facility for soldiers performing military service at the "Cerski Junaci" barracks in Šabac, where infrastructure works have been completed.
During the visit, Minister Gašić noted that the building was originally constructed in 1938 and had undergone adaptation and capital maintenance on multiple occasions starting in 1958. He also added that, given the age and condition of the structure, substantial construction works had to be undertaken.
- New rooms provide the necessary, modern living and working conditions for our soldiers and leaders. It is of utmost importance for us to ensure the best possible conditions for all our service members. I am especially pleased that the soldiers performing their military service will directly benefit from the works done. I am confident that the accommodation in the new premises will make their military service more pleasant – the Minister of Defence said.

He noted that the works done on this and other military facilities across the Republic of Serbia confirm the commitment of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to build, refurbish, and improve the infrastructure within their units and establishments, as well as their efforts to procure and modernise their armaments and military equipment.
The reconstructed and adapted facility for the accommodation of soldiers performing their military service at the Cerski Junaci barracks in Šabac has approximately 2,000 square metres of floor area. As part of the project, the façade was renovated and windows and doors replaced, increasing the building's energy efficiency more than threefold. The interior was adapted and equipped with new furniture and wireless internet infrastructure, further improving living conditions for soldiers during their military service.
During the visit, the Minister of Defence was accompanied by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mile Jelić, the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Nikola Matović, the Chief of Staff at the Army Command, Colonel Siniša Nikolić, and the Head of the Infrastructure Department, Lieutenant Colonel Miloš Peruničić.
