Congratulatory message from Minister of Defence to mark Military Police Day
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić has sent a message of congratulation on the occasion of September 14 – Military Police Day, which reads:
“I extend my congratulations to all members of the Military Police on September 14 – Military Police Day.
The Military Police rests upon a tradition that has deep historical roots. Its origins can be found in written source materials from 1876, when, by order of Prince Miloš Obrenović, special 'police detachments' were formed within the brigades of the Serbian Army. This fact represents an important part of our historical heritage and testifies to a long-standing tradition of maintaining military order, discipline, and security in an organised manner. Following in that tradition, the Military Police was formally established within the Yugoslav People’s Army in 1955 by order of the Supreme Commander of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia.
Today, 71 years after the establishment of the Military Police, its personnel continue to honourably preserve the legacy of their predecessors. Through the professional and responsible execution of duties including crime prevention, maintaining military order and discipline, protecting key military facilities, regulating and managing military road traffic, and countering terrorism, you reaffirm your significant role in ensuring the security and operational capability of the Serbian Armed Forces.
I would particularly highlight that, through your work and your professional approach to duties, you have demonstrated a high level of proficiency and readiness in carrying out your assigned tasks. Continuous training, modern equipment, and the commitment of each of your members form the foundation upon which strong, capable Military Police units are built, ready to meet any challenge and justify the trust placed in them.
I congratulate you on your professional holiday, confident that through your professionalism, responsibility toward your duties, and utmost commitment, you will continue to achieve notable results and contribute to the stability and security of the defence system of the Republic of Serbia.”
