Serbian Armed Forces conclude annual seasonal deployment at Lido Beach
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces today dismantled the pontoon bridge across the river Danube, which connected the Zemun Quay with Lido Beach on Great War Island.
Throughout the summer season, a dedicated crew from the River Flotilla’s pontoon unit remained on station to oversee the bridge’s security and maintenance, ensuring ease of access to the beach. The 345-metre pontoon bridge, comprising 38 pontoon elements with a total load capacity of 20 tonnes, was originally deployed at the end of June. Its dismantling today marked the official end of this year’s summer season at the popular Danube beach.
For years, the Serbian Armed Forces, in collaboration with the Tourist Organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, have facilitated this seasonal river crossing. In addition to serving the public, the operation, encompassing the transport, assembly, and dismantling of the bridge, provides invaluable practical training, enhancing the skills and operational readiness of the River Flotilla's pontoon units.
