Exercise SEESIM 2010



In the House of Guards in Topcider today, a ceremony was held to begin the international simulation Command Staff exercise SEESIM 2010 (South Eastern Europe Simulation 2010), which will last until 25 October.

The seven-day computer-simulated exercise that takes place under the assumption of terrorist attacks and natural disasters in the region of Southeast Europe, in addition to 13 European countries participant is also the United States of America and international organizations for assistance in emergency situations.

"Participation of Serbia in 2010 SEESIM exercise is an opportunity to use a broad international scenario to check, improve and promote interoperability in the response and cooperation in defence and security," the head of the exercise, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Command Headquarters of the Serbian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Milan Mojsilovic said opening the exercise.

He added that the exercise involves crisis planning and response within the domain of the third mission of the Serbian Armed Forces, which involves assisting civilian structures in the event of natural disasters and accidents.

a href="/multimedia/image/arhiva/IMG_4699.JPG" target="_blank">Deputy Head of the Emergency Situations Sector of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia Djordje Babic said that Serbia, like other European countries, has set up the sector only this year to ensure integrated and timely response to any emergency that might occur in the whole society.

The aim of the exercise is to use nationally developed scenarios to activate the national centres for emergency situations, and to create mechanisms for verification of practice to react to an emergency. SEESIM exercises are organized in a two-year cycle and are a sophisticated way of practicing at the national and regional level, through simulation in real time.

Host of SEESIM 2010 is Albania, and the international control device for exercise (EXCON) will be stationed in Tirana. For the purpose of the exercise, the participating States formed national emergency centres and during the exercise EXCON they will be directly linked to the national headquarters for the exercise through their emergency centres.

At the exercise "SEESIM 2010", besides the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Government, civil defence staffs and the Serbian Red Cross will also attend.
