Minister Gašić meets with Deputy Director of International Military Cooperation Office of China’s Central Military Commission
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met today with Major General Guo Hongtao, Deputy Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China, who is co-chairing the second meeting of the two nations’ Subcommittee for Cooperation on Military Matters.
During the meeting, Minister Gašić expressed his satisfaction that substantive bilateral cooperation is maintained successfully and according to plan. He also noted that the personal relationship between the two countries’ leaders, President Aleksandar Vučić and President Xi Jiping, gives a special character to friendly relations and provides an impetus for further defence cooperation.The Minister of Defence expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for the international support it provides to Serbia regarding the status of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, which remains an issue of the highest national importance for the Republic of Serbia. He also stressed that the Republic of Serbia will continue to support the “One China” principle.
He also highlighted that the acquisition of arms and military equipment from the People’s Republic of China has significantly enhanced the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, forming a strong basis for the further development of military-to-military cooperation.Minister Gašić commended the work of the Subcommittee for Cooperation on Military Affairs, and expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the third meeting of the Subcommittee on Military Equipment and Technology will be held by the end of the year.
Major General Hongtao stated that the People’s Republic of China attaches great importance to traditionally friendly relationship with the Republic of Serbia, and reaffirmed China’s readiness to continue and intensify defence cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
