5th “No One Said 'I Won’t'” Memorial Race held
The fifth edition of the memorial race titled “No One Said 'I Won’t'”, organised by the 204th Air Brigade, was held today at the Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović Air Base in Batajnica.
Each year, the traditional race brings together a large number of participants from across the defence system, with the aim of keeping alive the memory of the brave pilots of the 204th Fighter Aviation Regiment, whose sacrifice while defending the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the 1999 NATО aggression will never be forgotten. This year, a total of 191 competitors from various organisational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces took part in the event, competing in the 5000 and 10,000-metre races. Under the slogan that symbolises the determination, courage and commitment of Serbian Armed Forces personnel to protect - without fear for their own lives - their freedom, their people and their homeland, professional members from a number of units demonstrated that even in extremely challenging weather conditions, they were fully prepared for heavy psychophysical strain.
In the 10-kilometre race, Sergeant Jovan Mladenović of the 63rd Parachute Brigade claimed victory among male competitors, while Major Nevena Jovanović of the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Kobre” won the women’s title. The fastest male runner in the 5-kilometre event was civilian employee Janko Urošević of the Military Technical Institute, while Lieutenant Nataša Popović of the 126th ASEWG Brigade claimed victory among female competitors.
The Commander of the 204th Air Brigade, Brigadier General Milan Elenkov, presented awards to the top finishers, as well as certificates of appreciation and commemorative plaques to the event organisers.
