Diplomas, awards presented to cadets of Military Academy, MMA’s Faculty of Medicine

A ceremony was held today at the General Jovan Mišković Barracks in Banjica to present diplomas and awards to the cadets of the Military Academy (147th class) and the Military Medical Academy’s Faculty of Medicine (12th class).
Diplomas certifying the successful completion of integrated and undergraduate studies were presented to the Military Academy cadets by the Commandant of the Military Academy, Major General Željko Furundžić, while the cadets of the MMA’s Faculty of Medicine were presented with diplomas by the Dean, Prof. Sonja Marjanović, M.D., Ph.D.

Addressing those present, the Commandant of the Military Academy reviewed the cadets’ achievements and overall performance.

- The youngest officers of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence have completed four, or six, years of hard work, learning, and self-sacrifice. In addition to building up their knowledge and skills, during their studies special care was given to developing their virtues, character, a sense of duty and patriotism, and commitment to the military profession – said Major General Furundžić.
He noted that the cadets had learned to make decisions and take on responsibility at critical moments, and that the diplomas were the acknowledgement of both their military and professional competence.

The Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Novica Gogić, presented pilot wings to the cadets of the Military Aviation study programme.

At today’s ceremony, awards for the best graduate theses were also presented. The Dean of the Military Academy, Colonel Branimir Krstić, presented the award for the best thesis in the category of social sciences and humanities to Officer Cadet Luka Vesić (Infantry Module), while the award for the best thesis in the field of technical and natural sciences went to Officer Cadet Matija Simanić. The award for the best thesis at the MMA’s Faculty of Medicine went to Jelena Mićić.

The Second Lieutenant Borko Nikitović Foundation, which strives to preserve the tradition of the infantry branch, presented its annual award to the top infantry cadet, in memory of Borko Nikitović, a twenty-three-year-old Guards officer who was killed on the Vukovar battlefield in 1991. Zora Nikitović, the mother of the fallen second lieutenant after whom the foundation is named, presented the award to Officer Cadet Nemanja Ivanović. She said that the uniform of the Serbian Armed Forces carries great responsibility, as there is no greater honour than to defend one’s people and homeland.
This year’s Professor Stevan Šefer Award, which is traditionally awarded to the top cadet of the MMA’s Faculty of Medicine, went to Jelena Mićić. The award was presented by academic painter Slobodanka Rakić Šefer, who wished the cadets good health and every success in their future lives and professional careers.
