Meeting between Minister Gašić and Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Spain
Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić has had a meeting with Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Spain Margarita Robles Fernandes with whom he discussed the defence cooperation and politico-security situation.

On that occasion, the minister of defence expressed gratitude to the minister of defence of Spain for the initiative to personally pay homage and posthumously decorate the tragically fallen member of the Serbian Armed Forces, sergeant first class Milovan Jovanović during his service in the multinational operation UNIFIL in Lebanon.
He emphasised the particular importance of expressed solidarity and mutual support in difficult moments and said that our obligation, while protecting universal human values and preserving global peace, was to show that sergeant first class Milovan Jovanović, and other members of UN peacekeeping force had not given their lives in vain, and he wished quick recovery to the injured member of the Spanish Armed Forces.

Minister Gašić underlined the good and friendly relations between Serbia and Spain given that they represent a solid foundation for the development of the overall bilateral cooperation. He noted that the defence cooperation had been especially developed and intensified over the previous yeas through the joint engagement in the international operation UNIFIL in Lebanon that being the most significant form of cooperation between the two armed forces of the two states in the field. The minister of defence pointed out that the soldiers had gained immense mutual respect and confidence working together in that mission.
On that occasion, Minister Gašić stated that military-to-military cooperation represented the backbone of defence cooperation, which is, apart from the joint participation in the international operation UNIFIL, carried out through the exchange of experiences in the segment of transport aviation, CBRN and special units’ training.

Minister Gašić also expressed gratitude for the principled position of Spain and not recognising the so-called Kosovo, as well as for the support to Serbia on its path of European Integration.
The Minister of Defence of Spain stressed that the relations between the two countries are founded on mutual respect, confidence and long-standing cooperation, especially in the framework of the peacekeeping mission UNIFIL in Lebanon, adding that Spain highly regards the professionalism and dedication displayed by the members of the Serbian Armed Forces in international operations. In addition, she reconfirmed the position of Spain regarding the support to territorial sovereignty and integrity of the Republic of Serbia in the area of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
