Minister Gašić meets with Angolan Minister of National Defence Lúcio Amaral
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met with the Minister of National Defence, Former Combatants and Homeland Veterans of the Republic of Angola, Lúcio Gonçalves Amaral, at the Palace of Serbia today.
Minister Gašić welcomed the opportunity to meet with the newly appointed Angolan Minister of Defence for the first time. He expressed confidence that Amaral’s appointment to this high and responsible position would contribute to the further strengthening of defence cooperation, as well as to the overall development of relations between the two countries.During the meeting, Minister Gašić highlighted the importance of the work of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee in the past period, expressing confidence that the decisions adopted at its forthcoming sessions would be of great importance for the further advancement of cooperation.
Minister Gašić highlighted Serbia’s commitment to developing defence cooperation through military-economic and military educational collaboration, underscoring in particular the possibility of expanding military-technical cooperation.
He stated that the Republic of Serbia is a regional leader in military education and noted that 14 Angolan officers are currently receiving education and professional training at the Defence University, describing this as an important element of bilateral cooperation in the field of military education.Noting that the process of secession of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija represents the main security threat to the Republic of Serbia, Minister Gašić expressed his gratitude to Angola for its principled stance against the recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo, as well as for its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.
Minister Gašić underlined that the Republic of Serbia consistently upholds the principle of the inviolability of internationally recognised borders of United Nations member states as a foundational principle of international law, applied uniformly to all states without exception.
Minister Amaral expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue the dialogue on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. He noted that relations between the two countries are founded on traditional friendship and mutual respect, which provides a solid basis for the further strengthening of cooperation in all areas of shared interest. The Angolan Minister of Defence, who visited the Defence University yesterday, expressed his satisfaction at the fact that members of the Angolan Armed Forces are pursuing education and professional training within the military education system of the Republic of Serbia.The meeting between the two ministers followed the official welcoming ceremony held in front of the Palace of Serbia, during which the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, welcomed the President of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, with the lining up of the Guard of Honour and the playing of the national anthems of both countries. This was followed by a restricted-format meeting and a plenary session of the two delegations, co-chaired by the presidents of Serbia and Angola.
