Preparations for pontoon bridge installation over Velika Morava River near Svilajnac
At the request of local government representatives, the Serbian Armed Forces will bridge the Velika Morava River near Svilajnac, in the immediate vicinity of the bridge where traffic has been suspended, thus enabling locals, who were forced to use alternative routes, to cross the river more quickly.
The pontoon bridge will be installed by members of a pontoneer battalion from Šabac, who began assembling the bridge elements today in preparation for transportation along the river to Svilajnac. The bridge is planned to be handed over to the local government for use by the end of the week, after installation and safety checks.Passenger motor vehicles, motorcyclists and pedestrians will be able to cross the bridge, while buses and freight vehicles will be directed to alternative routes. Members of the Serbian Armed Forces will take care of its maintenance and safety for as long as it is in operation.
In this location, the Serbian Armed Forces installed a pontoon bridge at the beginning of July 2025, which was in operation until the end of November, when it was dismantled for safety reasons - due to the high river level and the risk of ice formation.
In this manner, the Serbian Armed Forces once again demonstrate that they are always at the service of citizens. The transportation of the structure along the river and the assembly of the bridge represents a type of training for professional personnel and contributes to the further improvement of the capabilities of the pontoneer units of the Serbian Armed Forces.
