Meeting with U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation
A seven-member delegation of U.S. congressional staffers, currently visiting the Republic of Serbia, met today with representatives of the International Military Cooperation Department of the Serbian Ministry of Defence.
During the meeting, it was noted that there is an upward trend in bilateral relations and that cooperation between the two countries is being strengthened in different areas through a number of joint projects and initiatives that reflect the advancement of mutual cooperation. It was also highlighted that Serbia remains committed to military neutrality, without seeking full membership in military organisations, while at the same time continuing to develop cooperation with all relevant international actors, particularly in the areas of security and defence. In this context, the Serbian side expressed the country’s readiness to further enhance bilateral military cooperation with the United States in line with shared interests.
Special emphasis was placed on the fact that the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija remains the main threat to Serbia’s security and to regional stability in the Western Balkans. The importance of KFOR’s role in maintaining security in Kosovo and Metohija, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, was also underscored.
