Guard of Honour welcomes holy relics from Hilandar



Holy relics from the Hilandar Monastery that will be on display as part of the Saint Sava exhibition at the SANU (Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts) Gallery, were welcomed with full military honours at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade today.
A Guard of Honour was mounted to welcome the objects of exceptional spiritual, cultural, and historical significance, while Military Bishop Dositej, Bishop of Lipljan, officiated a religious service.

The holy relics associated with the life of Saint Sava that have arrived in Serbia’s capital include: the icon of the Virgin Hodegetria, the icon of the Virgin Galaktotrophousa (“the Milk-Giver”), the icon of Christ Pantocrator, the icon of Saint Sava and Saint Simeon, replicas of the abbot’s staff of Hilandar and the staff of Saint Sabbas the Sanctified, the Typikon of Karyes, and a replica of the icon of the Virgin Tricherousa (Trojeručica).
The arrival ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, the Minister of Culture of the Hellenic Republic, Lina Mendoni, and the Acting Assistant Minister for Human Resources in the Ministry of Defence, Siniša Radović.

The Saint Sava exhibition, commemorating the 850th anniversary of the birth of Serbia’s first archbishop and great educator, will be open at the SANU Gallery in Belgrade from May 15 to July 19, 2026. The organizers of the exhibition are the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
