Serbian and Romanian riverine units conduct exercise on Danube

This week, riverine units of the Serbian Armed Forces and Romanian military and police forces tasked with riverine operations, conducted an exercise on a section of the Danube River near Vidin and at the port of Calafat in Romania.
The purpose of the exercise, titled Blue Danube 2026, was to exchange experiences in the use of tactics, techniques, and procedures for inland waterway operations, improve the level of training and readiness for joint operations, and strengthen mutual understanding and trust.

Over several days, naval and diving units from both countries practised manoeuvring, search-and-rescue operations, interception of suspicious vessels, damage control and repair procedures, and ship towing in realistic above-water and underwater scenarios.

The exercise included the special-purpose vessel Kozara, two multirole ships, and three boats with 70 soldiers and officers from the Serbian Armed Forces River Flotilla, as well as 90 personnel from the Romanian armed forces and border police operating a river monitor and a patrol boat.
The exercise was conducted based on a decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and is one of a number of bilateral military cooperation activities between Serbia and Romania, aimed at building concrete capabilities and promoting good neighbourly relations and regional stability.
