Congratulatory message from Minister of Defence on Guard Day
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić has sent a message of congratulations on the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard Day - May 6. The message reads:
“On the occasion of May 6, I extend my sincere congratulations to all members of the Guard.
The history of the Guard began on St. George’s Day in 1830, when, by order of Prince Miloš Obilić to “select Serbia’s best and finest men”, a unit of exemplary young men was formed, whose successors are today’s members of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard.
Upholding the tradition of their distinguished predecessors who took part in Serbia’s liberation wars, today’s members of the Guard affirm the unit’s elite status through their knowledge, dedication, and unwavering integrity. Your role is not only a military one, it is also of state significance, as you embody the Serbian Armed Forces and the Republic of Serbia in the eyes of national and international institutions.
Your daily tasks require the highest level of training, impeccable discipline, and constant readiness to carry out the most demanding protocol duties, protect the highest state and military officials, secure the most significant facilities within the defence system, take part in complex military exercises, and continuously enhance operational capabilities.
In the period behind us, you have once again proven yourselves worthy of the trust placed in you, achieving notable results across all areas of your work.
Confident that you will continue to carry out your duties flawlessly and to further improve military protocol, I extend my congratulations on the unit’s holiday and its 196th anniversary, hoping that your patron saint, St. George, will protect you and guide you towards the achievement of your goals.”
