Training of new generation of air control officers in 126th ASEWG Brigade

A new generation of air control officers in the 126th ASEWG Brigade is undergoing an intensive training programme lasting several months to prepare for performing their future duties independently.
The training at the brigade training centre is being attended by officers who, after graduating from the Military Academy last year, were assigned to posts within this unit. They are training on the new SOVA 24 air situation processing and display/automated control system, in coordination with fighter aircraft crews.

Captain First Class Miloš Milanović, deputy commander of the Control and Guidance Company within the 126th ASEWG Brigade, emphasizes that the training is of vital importance for maintaining a high level of the unit’s operational capability.
— Air control officers play an active role in the standing forces responsible for the control and protection of the Republic of Serbia’s airspace sovereignty. Their primary tasks include directing the on-duty fighter aviation unit toward unidentified aircraft within our national airspace, as well as directing such aircraft to land at one of Serbia’s airports. They also provide assistance to aircraft in distress within our country’s airspace – Captain Milanović said.

Second Lieutenant Katarina Stjepanić’s passion for the profession began in childhood, when she first saw her father in uniform, and later developed into a firm decision to enrol in the Air Surveillance and Early Warning module at the Military Academy.
— Another thing that motivated me to apply for this course was working with new technology. During the training, we worked in both simulated and real-world conditions, where we learned how to cope with stressful situations and make critical decisions in such moments - said Second Lieutenant Stjepanić.

The role of an air control officer in the 126th ASEWG Brigade also entails cooperation with other entities responsible for ensuring safe air traffic, including Air Traffic Control Centre. As a result, a significant part of the training is dedicated to aviation communications.
