Spasojevic opens the 5th Regional Meeting of Defense Policy Deputy Ministers



State Secretary Dusan Spasojevic, opened the fifth Regional Meeting of Deputy Ministers for Defence Policy.

Meetings of Deputy Ministers of Defense for Policy is held annually to enhance security cooperation and strengthen trust in the SEE region.

The goal of the 5th Regional Meeting of Deputy Ministers for Defence is considering the achievements of the past activities and initiatives and to find new modalities of cooperation.

State Secretary Spasojevic said that the EU accession and regional cooperation are Serbia’s top foreign policy and added that the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia are giving their full contribution to achieving these priorities. The fact is that the inherited security problems continue to burden the development of political relations in the region and beyond, "said Spasojevic, singling out as the biggest security problem in the region, the situation after the declaration of Kosovo’s independence, our province. He stressed the importance of the fact that there is a willingness that all security challenges, risks and threats the countries in the region are facing are solved in a constructive, and the spirit of EU.

Spasojevic informed the conference participants of the results of the defense system reform, emphasizing the strong commitment of the Ministry of Defence, through participation in all regional security initiatives to make significant contribution to building regional stability and in particular pointed out that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Defense increased the scope of engagement in peacekeeping missions.

Today's conference represents a good framework for deepened dialogue and for developing mutual trust and an opportunity to talk about all the problems with our international and regional partners, but primarily the initiative and responsibility should lie on us, the countries of the region, concluded Spasojevic.
