Training of CBRN defence personnel

The Serbian Armed Forces’ CBRN units are equipped with modern equipment and are highly proficient in performing CBRN defence tasks both independently and as part of other structures, across all three missions of the Serbian Armed Forces.
Training is conducted continuously throughout the year to maintain and further enhance the units’ ability to organize and implement specialized CBRN measures in support of forces during operations.

At the Ravnjak military training ground in Kruševac, members of the 246th CBRN Battalion are currently practising CBRN control procedures in situations involving the use of weapons of mass destruction or accidental contamination. The training includes chemical reconnaissance of routes, establishing the boundaries of contaminated zones, and decontaminating soil and equipment.

Modern protective equipment is being used during the training, along with state-of-the-art equipment such as the domestically produced MPD-09 multifunctional mobile decontamination platform. This platform combines the functions of five different systems: a decontamination tanker truck, a water tanker truck, a firefighting vehicle, a water pump, and a decontamination device.
Captain 1st Class Aleksandar Lukić, company commander within the 246th CBRN Battalion, points out that this Army unit is equipped and trained to plan, organize, and implement specialized CBRN defence measures, as well as to eliminate the consequences of chemical and nuclear accidents.

— Training is the most important task for the 246th CBRN Battalion and the aim is to maintain and enhance the skills of the unit members, both individually and as a team — said Captain Lukić, adding that the unit is equipped with modern equipment, including detection and dosimetry devices, as well as protective equipment.
The capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces’ CBRN units develop in line with international standards, ensuring a high level of interoperability, i.e. the ability to perform specialized missions together with forces from other countries.
