Commemoration in Jajinci



With the highest state and military honors, the commemoration ceremony was held for the Victims of Fascism in World War II at the memorial park Jajinci in Belgrade today,. Due respects were paid by the Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Serbian Army Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Miloje Miletic, representatives of the survivors of concentration camps, representatives of the city of Belgrade, of SUBNOR (he Union of War Veterans of the National Liberation War) and numerous foreign delegations.

Prime Minister Cvetkovic said that the Jajinci should be remembered both as a warning and obligation of all to persevere in the struggle against fascism, an ideology of hatred, evil and violence.

Remembering the victims in Jajinci is also a message and a warning in our times that this can happen when you forget that all men are equal in dignity before the law and that they are equally entitled to all rights. Today we renew the commitment to educate young generations in the spirit of nonviolence, tolerance, justice and the willingness of the differences - said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that a democratic Serbia, observing all civilized standards, seeks to prevent any kind of ethnic and racial discrimination.

Our main goal is to protect human life and the right to freedom and democracy – as Prime Minister Cvetkovic said.

The SUBNOR President, retired General Slavko Popovic, addressed the present while after the commemoration a cultural and artistic program ensued, with choreographic drama "Requiem for the Lost City", inspired by verses of Branko Miljkovic.

At the shooting grounds in Jajinci during World War II, more than 60 000 inmates - Serbs, Roma, Jews, participants national liberation wars, anti-fascists and those who did not reconcile themselves with the occupation of the country and the fascist regime were killed.
