President Vučić meets with Italian Defence Minister Crosetto
The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, met today at the Palace of Serbia with the Minister of Defence of the Italian Republic, Guido Crosetto, who is paying on an official visit to Serbia.
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, were in attendance at the meeting.President Vučić welcomed the opportunity to meet with Italian Minister of Defence Crosetto, stating that their discussions focused on the key aspects of an increasingly complex global security context. They also considered strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of defence, as well as the roles of Serbia and Italy in the current international landscape.
- We devoted particular attention to crisis hotspots and their impact on the stability of Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as on the broader international order. I reiterated that today’s security threats are unpredictable and carry a substantial risk of conflict spreading, as evidenced by the current conflict across the Middle East.I expressed concern over the further development of the situation in the Middle East, as well as in the Western Balkans, where new military alliances have recently been formed that do not contribute to the preservation of stability and overall security, but instead raise tensions unnecessarily.
I underlined that any destabilisation in either region directly affects European security, energy stability, and global trade. I reiterated that dialogue is the only path to a lasting solution and that greater efforts are needed to reduce tensions. We also discussed the importance of better coordination and information sharing among partners to lessen the impact of regional conflicts.I emphasised that Serbia remains committed to a policy of peace and military neutrality, while maintaining open cooperation with partners such as Italy. I am confident that through closer political and defence dialogue we will further strengthen our ties and jointly contribute to regional stability in a time of serious global challenges – President Vučić stated.
