Serbian Armed Forces celebrate IT Service Day

Today, the Serbian Armed Forces formally celebrated IT Service Day, as well as the anniversary of the Command Information Systems and IT Support Centre.
During ceremonies held at the Telecommunications and IT Department (J-6) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and its subordinate units, the achievements of IT Service personnel over the past year were reviewed, and awards were presented to the most outstanding individuals.

Reflecting on key achievements, it was concluded that the IT Service successfully fulfilled all assigned tasks, ensuring uninterrupted telecommunications and IT support for the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. Particular attention was given to the active role of service members in preparing and implementing the Serbian Armed Forces modernization project titled Digital Army, as well as in developing new capabilities for cyber operations.

IT Service Day and the anniversary of the Command Information Systems and IT Support Centre are observed in commemoration of February 21, 1963, the date recognized as the beginning of computer technology in the military. On that day, the Sixth Directorate of the General Staff of the Yugoslav People’s Army was established, to which the first military institution equipped with computer systems was subordinated. This visionary initiative was a response to the imperative of the time for modernization of administrative services and laid the foundation for what has today become a modern, digitalized defence system.
