Winter flight training cycle on multirole helicopters
The winter flight training cycle is currently underway in the helicopter squadron of the 204th Air Brigade, based at the Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović military air base in Batajnica.
The objective of the training is to enhance the unit’s capabilities and maintain the proficiency of Gazelle and H-145 multirole helicopter crews in carrying out flight missions in both favourable and complex meteorological conditions, when reduced visibility, uniform terrain, and whiteout caused by blowing snow make flying difficult. In the broader Belgrade area, crews are practicing formation flying, en-route low altitude flying, off-airfield take-offs, and landings on unprepared terrain, by day and by night. The unit is also carrying out basic flight training for fourth-year cadets of the Military Academy, Military Aviation study programme. The training is conducted on Gazelle helicopters and includes check flights, solo flights, as well as landing and take-off exercises.
The execution of intensive flight training in the squadrons of the Serbian Armed Forces has been made possible by substantial investments in the Air Force. The acquisition of new helicopters, together with the enhancement of maintenance capacities, has substantially increased aircraft availability for training activities. As a result, flight crews get much more flight time, thereby achieving a higher level of combat readiness, while cadets are able to transition directly to advanced forms of flight training immediately upon entry into profession military service.
