Training on SAF's most powerful Air Defence systems
Within the 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade, a battalion equipped with the FK-3 missile system is conducting intensive training focusing on the execution of missions aimed at protecting the airspace of the Republic of Serbia.
The aim of the training is to further enhance the proficiency of combat crews and the unit’s overall operational capabilities, with emphasis placed on the preparation and execution of air defence operations.According to the battalion commander, Major Vladan Škrkić, the FK-3 missile system has been in service since 2022. Its introduction into service has significantly improved the capabilities of the 250th Missile Brigade and the Serbian Armed Forces as a whole, enabling them to effectively respond to modern aerial threats.
— With the introduction of the FK-3 missile system, our units have gained the capability to destroy multiple targets simultaneously at long distances, significantly increasing efficiency and reliability in responding to aerial threats. The system represents a cornerstone of Serbia’s air defence and is of exceptional importance to the Serbian Armed Forces and the Air Force and Air Defence, as it is a major step forward in the modernisation of Serbia’s air defence capabilities. It provides a high degree of adaptability to contemporary aerial threats. With its characteristics, including a range of up to 100 kilometres and a vertical range of up to 27 kilometres, the system offers exceptional capabilities for the protection of key administrative, political, and economic facilities, as well as Serbian Armed Forces units. The introduction of this system has strengthened our ability to adapt to modern combat conditions, where speed and precision are crucial for a quick response to threats — explained Major Škrkić.Commander of the missile battery, Captain Aleksandar Jovanić, notes that the training consists of both theoretical and practical components, during which personnel acquire the necessary knowledge for operating the system. Special emphasis is placed on the synchronized operation of all system elements, speed of response, precision, and meticulous execution of assigned tasks. According to him, the training is progressive and conducted in several phases, allowing each individual, as well as the unit as a whole, to achieve and maintain the required level of proficiency, and is carried out continuously throughout the year.
— The size and composition of combat crews depend on the specific task and operational conditions. However, teamwork and coordination among all crew members are of utmost importance, because that is the only way to effectively conduct air defence operations using a modern and sophisticated missile system such as the FK-3 – said Captain Jovanić.The replenishment of launcher vehicles with air defence missiles constitutes a key activity during both the preparation and execution phases of air defence operations, as it ensures the continuity of unit’s combat ability, explained Captain Jovana Dobrijević, missile guidance platoon commander.
— It is especially important for the FK 3 missile system, as it allows for the simultaneous engagement of a single target with two missiles, which is why the timely replenishment of launcher vehicles is vital to the overall effectiveness of an air defence operation — said Captain Dobrijević.Continuous training of members of the 250th Missile Brigade, which serves as the primary firepower of Serbia’s defence system, ensures a high level of readiness of the missile brigade’s units for the timely preparation and execution of air defence operations, engaging aerial targets with modern missile systems.
