Enhancing cooperation between military and civilian healthcare
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Đuro Macut, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić, and Minister of Health Zlatibor Lončar, met today at the Military Medical Academy with the institution’s management. The meeting focused on opportunities to further advance the national health care system, as well as on the capacities of the Military Medical Academy for additional involvement in strengthening health care services for citizens and reducing waiting lists for orthopaedic surgeries.
Prime Minister Macut said that the meeting considered potential ways to reduce waiting lists through the joint efforts of all healthcare institutions in Serbia, as well as modalities for involving military medical institutions, primarily the Military Medical Academy, which has extensive experience and a long tradition in orthopaedics and traumatology.- We discussed opportunities for cooperation across the healthcare system in Serbia. I think that the proposal recently put forward by the President of the Republic at an expanded government session, concerning reductions in waiting lists for health services, specifically those in orthopaedics, related to hip and knee procedures, represents an opportunity to further enhance this cooperation and to analyse modalities for reducing waiting lists and establishing better coordination in the work of healthcare intuitions throughout Serbia – Prime Minister Macut said.
Minister Gašić noted that cooperation between the military and civilian sectors in healthcare is extremely important for improving treatment conditions for all citizens.- The Military Medical Academy has highly qualified personnel, state-of-the-art equipment, and extensive experience in all medical fields, which makes it a key resource for the further advancement of the healthcare system of the Republic of Serbia. The Ministry of Defence fully supports the initiative to strengthen cooperation between military and civilian healthcare systems, making a greater use of the Military Medical Academy’s capacities in managing waiting lists – the Minister of Defence stated.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel Nenad Perišić, M.D., Ph. D, and his associates.
