Visit to SAF units responsible for airspace control and protection
Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, visited elements of the continuously engaged force tasked with the control and protection of the sovereignty of Serbia’s airspace.
Air Force and Air Defence Commander Major General Brane Krnjajić briefed the Minister and the Chief of the General Staff on the current level of modernisation, equipment, the core missions, and the command structure of the engaged force. During the visit, Air Force and Air Defence units demonstrated their capabilities, including detection, tracking, and engaging targets in all weather conditions, on a 24/7 basis. As part of the visit, the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff were presented with new capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, resulting from the introduction of new assets, which is an important step in the ongoing process of modernisation and strengthening of the country’s defence capabilities. The discussions also covered plans for the further modernisation of the Air Force and Air Defence through the acquisition of advanced systems, in line with defence system development priorities.
Minister Gašić noted that these capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces act as a powerful deterrent and added that Serbia, thanks to continuous modernisation and investments in the defence system, remains a guarantor of peace and stability across the region.- Over the past decade, we have worked systematically and responsibly to equip Air Force and Air Defence units, and to improve the living and working conditions of their personnel. As a result, the Serbian Armed Forces now have some of the most advanced Air Force and Air Defence systems in their arsenal. By continuing to upgrade and modernise the airspace control and protection systems, we are investing directly in the security and protection of our citizens, because the protection of Serbia’s airspace is a matter of national sovereignty, and on that issue there can be no compromise, the Minister of Defence said.
