72nd Special Operations Brigade Day

A military ceremony marking 72nd Special Operations Brigade Day, observed on January 27 in commemoration of the unit’s first successfully executed combat mission, was held today at the Rastko Nemanjić Barracks in Pančevo.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, members of the Chief of the General Staff’s collegium, former unit commanders, families of fallen brigade members, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, local government officials, as well as representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, veterans’ associations and partner institutions.

As part of the ceremony, key accomplishments in building combat readiness over the past year were presented to the assembled brigade members and veterans, a demonstration of the unit’s capabilities was conducted, and awards and commendations were presented to the most outstanding individuals. Wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial commemorating the fallen members of this elite unit of the Serbian Armed Forces.
In his address, the Commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, recalled the brigade’s history, noting that the unit has proudly observed the Feast of Saint Sava for over three decades. He further stated that, as a recipient of the Order of the War Flag 1st Class, the unit continues to justify the trust placed in it by the state and military leadership.

He stressed that the unit’s operational capabilities have been significantly enhanced in the recent period, particularly since 2019, when the unit regained the rightfully deserved brigade status.
Earlier today, members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade observed the unit’s patron saint’s day – the Feast of Saint Sava, the first Serbian archbishop.
