Military schools celebrate Saint Sava Day

Today, students of the Military Grammar School and the 1300 Corporals Secondary Vocational Military School celebrated the Feast of Saint Sava – the patron saint of schools.
The Saint Sava Day celebration was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić, Rector of the Defence University Brigadier General Boban Đorović, PhD, members of the military schools, and numerous guests.

The ceremonial blessing of the wheat and cutting of the Slava cake, was performed by military chaplains, Protopresbyter Maj. Nemanja Petrović and Presbyter Capt. 1st Class Slavko Papić, accompanied by the school choir.
The Head of the Military Grammar School, Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Stevanović, said that the Military Grammar School and the 1300 Corporals Secondary Vocational Military School are shaping future officers and NCOs of the Serbian Armed Forces, leaders and commanders who understand why they wear the uniform and whom they will serve – their people and their country.

- We teach them to love and defend every inch of Serbia, to understand that weapons are a means, but that knowledge is the most powerful weapon a soldier can possess – the ability to think, to make right decisions, and to lead people in both war and peace. Saint Sava set us on this path, the path of education, order, and responsibility – said Lieutenant Colonel Stevanović.
The chaplain of the Military Academy, Major Petrović, said that the celebration of a patron saint is not merely a custom, but a living testament to our spiritual and cultural identity.

- Military schools, as institutions that shape future officers and non-commissioned officers, the intellectual elite of the defence system, have a special responsibility – to cultivate honour, sense of responsibility, selflessness, and service to the greater good in their students, alongside professional competence and discipline – Major Petrović said, stressing that these values form the foundation of military discipline and are embodied in the legacy of Saint Sava.
Students of the military schools – members of the drama and recitation, music, choir, gusle, and oratory clubs, presented a rich cultural and artistic programme, further enhancing the ceremony.
