St. Sava Martial Arts Tournament

The traditional St. Sava Martial Arts Tournament, organized by the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, was held today at the Rastko Nemanjić Barracks in Pančevo.
At this year’s tournament, members of Serbian Armed Forces special units and Military Academy cadets took part in the competition, while athletes from Serbian martial arts associations and federations took part in the exhibition part.

Participants competed in judo, boxing and kick-boxing, showing a high level of skill, sportsmanship, and fair play in the ring. The most successful team were the Special Operations Battalion “Sokolovi” (Falcons).

The ceremonial opening of the St. Sava Martial Arts Tournament was attended by the host - Commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, along with the President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Dejan Tomašević, representatives of martial arts associations, current and former members of Serbia’s national teams, and numerous guests.

Martial arts training is an important component of combat and physical training in the Serbian Armed Forces, primarily in special, military police and reconnaissance units. It enhances physical fitness and mental resilience, enabling personnel to deal successfully with situations they may encounter due to the nature of the tasks they perform.
