New issue of “Odbrana” released

The New Year’s issue of Odbrana magazine contains interesting reports and the latest news from the defence system. The Standpoint section is dedicated to the unit celebrating its anniversary this month - 4th Army Brigade.
The System section includes a range of articles. At Base South and the Borovac Training Area near Bujanovac, we observed the training of members of an infantry battalion from the 4th Army Brigade on the newly introduced Lazar 3M armoured combat vehicles. We have also covered the River Flotilla’s cold weather training - basic diver course - conducted at the Aleksandar Berić Barracks in Novi Sad. We have also visited the Mixed Artillery Brigade in Niš and observed the training of its professional personnel on 155 mm B-52 M-15 NORA self-propelled howitzers.

We have also attended the Career Guidance, Education, and Employment Fair held in Pirot, aimed at final-year elementary and secondary school students preparing to choose their future careers, as well as at unemployed citizens, who were given detailed information on employment and career development opportunities within the Serbian Armed Forces.

The issue also features an article dedicated to military sports and athletes – members of the Sports Unit, Military Academy cadets, and students attending secondary military schools who have achieved notable results in international and local competitions. These young people, who promote competitive spirit, physical fitness, and a healthy lifestyle, are true ambassadors of their country, the Ministry of Defence, and the Serbian Armed Forces.

This month’s issue includes an article summarizing the International Scientific Conference “80 Years since the Liberation of Jasenovac – Case Study: Concentration and Death Camps in the Independent State of Croatia,” organized by the Museum of Genocide Victims. We have also covered the launch of the monograph titled “The Second World War 1939–1945”, and dedicated an article to the papers presented at the symposium on the role of partisan medical corps during the National Liberation War held by the Serbian Medical Society’s section for the history of medicine.

The Tradition section offers an insight into the way Christmas was celebrated in the units of the Royal Yugoslav Army. The article includes an excerpt from the upcoming book titled “Chaplaincy Service in the Royal Yugoslav Army”, which is to be published by Media Centre Odbrana soon. You can also read about this year’s Officers’ Ball, traditionally held at the Central Military Club on December 4th, Veterans’ Day.

The magazine commemorates the anniversary of the TV programme titled “Dozvolite… “, which has documented the activities of our military for six decades. The issue concludes with cultural coverage, including the exhibition titled “Once Upon a Time in Belgrade… the World of Vidosava Kovačević” and the final concert of the year in “Our Soloists” series, organized by “Stanislav Binički” - the Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence.
