Air Force and Air Defence Day
Air Force and Air Defence Day was solemnly marked today at the command and units of this service branch of the Serbian Armed Forces, commemorating December 24, 1912, when a decision was passed to establish the Air Force Command, headquartered in Niš.
At the ceremony, past year's accomplishments were summed up, awards and recognitions were presented to oustanding individuals, and wreaths were laid next to memorials located within barracks and military air bases.The central ceremony, held at the Air Force Club in Zemun, was attended by the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mile Jelic, Bishop Dositej of Lipjan, the vicar of the Serbian Patrirach and the military bishop, members of the collegiums of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff, active and retired members of the AF and AD, representatives of local government bodies, religious communities, and partner institutions, and numerous other guests.
At the beginning of the ceremony, a message from the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić was read.
The guests were welcomed by the Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Major General Brane Krnjajić, who recalled the long history of the development of the Air Force and Air Defence, stating that we can be proud of our aviation ancestors because there was not a critical moment in our history that our people could not successfully deal with. - Driven by strong patriotism, self-confidence and determination to stand up to any aggressor, they always put the defence of the homeland and the freedom of the Serbian sky before their own lives. It is something to be proud of, but in the times ahead, it is also a great obligation for all of us, to cherish the memory of all our fallen fellow soldiers, but also the heroic deeds, successes, and achievements of numerous generations of airmen - said, among other things, General Krnjajić.
At today’s ceremony, the Air Force and Air Defence Commander presented a plaque to a representative of the Aeroklub Valjevo company for successful cooperation in 2025. The event was enhanced by the performance of the Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binički” and a short documentary film titled “Air Force and Air Defence in the Past Year”.
