Officer training for peacekeeping roles
An international UN Staff Officers Course was held at Base South near Bujanovac, bringing together participants from the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, and the armed forces of ten other countries.
Over the three-week course, participants completed both theoretical and practical modules covering the key aspects of how UN integrated missions function, the military component’s planning process, as well as staff functions and procedures. A substantial portion of the course focused on reviewing staff officers’ experiences from current peacekeeping operations. The course was organized by the Serbian Armed Forces’ Peacekeeping Operations Centre, with the support of instructors from the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, the Kazakhstan Peace Operations Center, the Ministry of the Interior, the Red Cross of Serbia, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and UNICEF Serbia.
Our Peacekeeping Operations Centre has been certified by the UN Integrated Training Service to conduct this course in line with UN standards and procedures. Foreign interest in sending personnel to the course has traditionally been high, which speaks to the high quality of training and preparation that the Serbian Armed Forces provide for peacekeeping deployments.
