Wreath-laying ceremonies held on Veterans’ Day
Today, delegations from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths with full military honours at several locations across Serbia to mark Veterans’ Day.
A delegation from the Ministry of Defence laid a wreath at the tomb of Field Marshal Radomir Putnik at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
Wreaths were also laid at the Freedom Monument at Iriški Venac, Fruška Gora, at the memorial to fallen members of the Air Force and Air Defence located at the Air Force and Air Defence Command in Zemun, and at the memorial to the soldiers and police officers killed in 1998 and 1999, located at the Field Marshal Petar Bojović barracks in Leskovac.
Members of veterans’ associations also laid wreaths in memory of the fallen Serbian soldiers.
Veterans’ Day commemorates the date in 1912 when an armistice was signed in the First Balkan War, and when 400,000 soldiers of the Royal Serbian Army were granted the title of old soldier, i.e. veteran.
