Serbian Armed Forces celebrate Feast Day of Saint Stefan of Dečani
Yesterday, the Serbian Armed Forces celebrated the feast day of Saint Stefan of Dečani (Mratindan) in the Guard’s chapel at the Dedinje barracks in Belgrade.
His Grace Dositej, Vicar Bishop of Lipljan and the bishop overseeing military chaplains in the Serbian Armed Forces, concelebrated the Divine Hierarchical Liturgy with the military clergy. After the liturgy, the blessing of the Slava offerings and the cutting of the Slava bread were performed, followed by a festive meal for members of the Serbian Armed Forces.On this occasion, the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mosilović, was given a special honour, the medal of the Serbian Orthodox Church – the Cross of Saint Varnava of Hvosno, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to developing and strengthening military chaplaincy within the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as for creating opportunities to promote and strengthen moral and spiritual values grounded in the Orthodox tradition.
This high ecclesiastical award was presented to the Chief of the General Staff by Bishop Dositej, Military Bishop of the Serbian Armed Forces, with the blessing of His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch.The medal – the Cross of Saint Varnava of Hvosno, the New Confessor, is awarded in recognition of a lifetime of bearing witness to the Gospel in the public sphere. It was established in 2023 at the proposal of the Military Bishop and by the decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
